This ancient Japanese technique not only mends pottery but also enhances its beauty. Gintsugi, the silver counterpart to Kintsugi, uses silver instead of gold to repair broken pottery, creating a unique and striking aesthetic. \

In our Gintsugi technique, heat lamps are used with lacquer adhesive and silver mica powder. Led by an experienced instructor, you'll receive step-by-step guidance to create your own unique Gintsugi pieces. \

No previous experience is required; this class is designed for beginners. \
\
You’ll be amazed at how your broken ceramics can transform into beautiful artworks. We offer a vast selection of vintage crockery and Japanese bowls, or you can bring your own piece from home to repair. Throughout the workshop, you'll also gain an appreciation for the beauty of imperfections through the philosophy of wabi-sabi. (Kintsugi and Gintsugi are related to the Japanese philosophy of mushin (無心, "no mind"), which encompasses concepts of non-attachment and the acceptance of change.

It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together by embracing the cracks using Japanese gold mica powder. In this class, which honours the traditional Japanese art of fixing with gold, an experienced teacher from Art4Space will guide you through every step so that you leave with beautiful symbolic pottery with golden seams to treasure.

As well as enjoying the hands-on experience with all the materials provided, you will also learn a little about the history and philosophy of Kintsugi. We create up to 2 traditional Japanese bowls. You can also bring a piece of crockery if you wish (small vase, plate, bowl, cup), and we can explore how to fix this in the best way. We also have a vintage collection you can choose to repair.

Your teachers are people who love the reflection, symbolism, and art of Kintsugi. We have achieved the best results. One of our teachers recently returned from living in Japan and follows the wabi-sabi philosophy that encourages a mindful acceptance of life’s flaws and transient nature, finding beauty in the ordinary and everyday. My boyfriend and I attended the Kintsugi class, and it was amazing! John was a great teacher, reassuring us and guiding us, with patience and care. You get to make 2 pieces each with all the materials provided for you, and they turn out so beautiful and unique. You get free tea, coffee, beer, wine, soft drinks, and snacks to fuel you for the 2 1/2 hour class. They also have little Kintsugi kits you can buy for £12 incase you don't finish your piece, or if you want to continue your Kintsugi journey at home, which I think is a great idea! The class had such a nice atmosphere and everyone looked like they were having a great time - I could hear other attendees talking about what a great class it was! Would definitely recommend and would buy this experience for friends and family, 10/10!

I attended a Kintsugi workshop at Art4Space workshop yesterday and it was well beyond my expectations! Absolutely fantastic! Lead by Natalie and assisted by John it was extremely well run. I didn't expect to come away with two beautiful products that I made in the workshop. It was a fabulous afternoon where we were made comfortable and offered an array of refreshments and snacks. More importantly you could tell Natalie and John were experts. It takes a properly trained teacher to teach well and Natalie showed brilliant class management and educated us with simple, clear instructions, a truly gifted teacher 10 out of 10. The measure of a good teacher is did we learn? We certainly did and I came away with newly acquired skill and in such a short space of time again, a tribute to the skills of teacher and assistant.  Another really important aspect is their communication was superb every step of the way. I will be telling all my friends and will definitely be returning for another session, also the studio has loads on offer.  I highly recommend this professional outfit. Thank you.

Very enjoyable course., and time flew by! The presenters were very friendly and inviting which added to the experience. I would highly recommend this workshop to others.
Only criticism I would offer is that you need to find a better, and quicker way, to do the filing of the broken edges since this eats away at the time available, and doesn't really leave enough time to complete a second piece. The 'old' files seemed better than the 'new' ones, but are there other options?
May also be wise to advise participants to keep to a maximum of  3 pieces  to allow time to complete two items when sharing the 'tips'.
Are there other options for the adhesive i.e. using the 2-part syringe products to reduce risk of 'sticky fingers'? Or are these too expensive?

We joined the kintsugi class and loved every minute. We were greeted with a beer, snacks and a very relaxing experience. We never felt rushed or like anything was too much trouble. We were offered refreshments throughout the class and encouraged to take our time but we were also encouraged to do two pieces if we wanted to.
